Frequently Asked Questions

What resolution does the WideTEK 60ART-800 scan at?

The WideTEK 60ART-800 scans at up to 1200 DPI true optical resolution, captured contact-free from directly above the artwork rather than through a roller or glass press. That resolution is high enough to pick up individual brushstrokes, paper grain, and fine surface texture, which is what separates a museum-grade scan from a flatbed scan or a photograph of the piece. It can also capture originals as large as 60 by 80 inches in a single pass, so a large canvas or blueprint doesn’t need to be scanned in sections and stitched together afterward. The scan is captured with 48-bit color depth and ICC color profiles under closed-loop calibration, so the color you see on screen matches the original piece closely enough for accurate giclée reproduction.

Is it safe for fragile or valuable artwork?

Yes. The WideTEK 60ART-800 never touches the artwork during scanning — there are no rollers and no glass press, so there’s no risk of pressure damage to canvas, paper, or mounted pieces. It also uses cool, UV- and IR-free LED lighting instead of the hot scanning lamps found in older large-format equipment, which protects valuable or antique artwork from heat exposure and fading during the scan. Because the scanner captures the piece contact-free from above, it can safely scan artwork that’s still wet, framed pieces without removing the frame, or fragile originals that couldn’t survive a traditional flatbed or roller-fed scanner. This is part of why it’s used for archival and museum-standard digitization work, not just reproduction.

Do I need to ship my art anywhere?

No. This is the only WideTEK 60ART-800 scanner in Orange County, so instead of shipping your artwork to an out-of-county scanning service, you bring the piece directly to our Laguna Hills location and it never leaves your sight during the process. That matters for valuable, fragile, or one-of-a-kind originals where shipping carries real risk of damage or loss — you can watch the scan happen, confirm the color and detail on screen before you leave, and take your original artwork back with you the same day in most cases. Local galleries and collectors throughout Orange County use this in-person process specifically to avoid shipping originals out of the area.

Can you also print from the scan?

Yes. Once your artwork is scanned on the WideTEK 60ART-800, we can print gallery-quality giclée reproductions directly from that file using our large-format printers, all at the same Laguna Hills location — no need to send the scan file to a separate print vendor. Giclée printing uses archival pigment inks on canvas or fine-art paper to reproduce the color depth and detail captured in the original scan, which is why it’s the standard reproduction method galleries and collectors use for limited-edition prints. See our giclée printing service page for paper and canvas options, sizing, and turnaround on reproduction prints once your scan is complete.
